September Event Updates & Season Programs

21.05.2020

Just a further update from The Event Crew as we work hard to prepare for events in spring and throughout next summer.

We have 2 events scheduled for September and we wanted to provide some additional details around these events.

7 News Gold Coast Running Festival, September 6th

Entries are open and we have the Loyalty 60% pricing up for all event distances – we have already sold one quarter of these so get in quick to avoid missing this great price point!

Lots of work being done on this rescheduled event. We are more confident that we will be able to run our event in September but there will be several sensible changes to mitigate COVID and we are waiting to step through the Queensland Government’s COVID SAFE PLAN process when it is available in the next few weeks.

This will include:

  • Ensuring 1.5m can be observed around the venue and also on course, particularly at the start area, the finish line, event check in and recovery areas
  • Additional hand hygiene measures (especially drink stations, finish line, recovery, rego)
  • Additional venue cleaning and disinfection
  • Contactless drink stations, recovery, medal pick up
  • Limit spectators and spread spectators across the first 2km of the course
  • Request and remind not to attend if unwell

To support this last initiative anyone that is unwell in event week will be able to receive a full refund up to the Wednesday prior, and a 50% refund up to race start or a full transfer to 2021.

We also plan to Live Stream the finish line to assist family and supporters watch your finish from home.

Back Up plans and date

We think it’s prudent for us to have a backup plan and to communicate this to you. As such we have plans to run the event on October 4th IF it becomes apparent that we will be unable to operate the event under Queensland Government health directives. A decision on this would be made on or prior to August 6th

Marathon Option

We are aware that a number of our participants (including many already entered) were looking to run a marathon in 2020. We will be offering a Marathon option, but we also need to do this within our operational capabilities and utilising the course and facilities we have.

A full plan for this will be developed and entries are now open.

Draft Plan for Marathon Option

  • 5:30am Start
  • 4 Lap Course (each lap is exactly ¼ Marathon)

Special Needs/Drinks can be either placed on additional tables at the ¼ Turn drink station OR can be provided directly to competitors on the outbound side of Cheltenham Drive by a support person (required to take any rubbish please). Rubbish to be dropped at drink stations ONLY including gel packets.

Marathon will have a 4hr Course Limit, however the finish line will remain open for 4.5hrs or longer if we are able (it will be the last thing packed up after 10am). That means if you turn to start your last lap after 3 hours you will be able to finish but you will need to move to the footpath and observe road rules when advised by course staff/police tail during pack up.

And Yes, we will be providing a special Marathon Medal!

Please note that this option will be limited to 250 Runners and priority will be given to local Clubs and Coaches who have had people training for a marathon already in 2020.

Round 1 Queensland Triathlon Series, Moreton Bay, September 27th

Entries are Open for all Queensland Triathlon Series Rounds and we have the Loyalty 60% pricing up for all events across the series.

Please note that this Moreton Bay Tri event does NOT include a Draft Legal Event and as such has an earlier start time for other age-group events (the online event manual is updated). The event will INCLUDE the 2020 Triathlon Queensland State Champs and Club Champs (carried over from April).

Club-Coach Hardship Program

We are very aware that a number of our regular participants will struggle to pay for event entries, even with the loyalty pricing in place – therefore we will be contacting the top 10 clubs/coaching groups from last season and providing some fully paid entries for R1 to utilise and ensure people can continue. We see this as a great way that we can support our sport through this tough period.

We will continue this program through 2020-21 season with the top 10 clubs at each round receiving more fully paid entries. We will be in touch with Clubs and Coaches in June.

Adopt a Race Program

This year we are changing the conversation with our participants and asking you to get involved.

We will be seeking volunteer support from clubs and coaching groups to cover some of our volunteer roles (typically 20 per event) and in return will provide individuals with a complimentary entry up to $90 in value.

We will be in touch with clubs and coaches in June and we will also open this to individuals/families prior to the season start – stay tuned.
